Services

Zurlo Law Office provides counseling and legal services across a broad spectrum, and I personally work with clients both locally and nationally. I have special expertise in counseling and advising clients in the process of developing a successful and protected creative business entity as well as drafting and negotiating licenses and agreements.

Mentoring & Guidance

Are you at a crossroads with your life, art, or business and are seeking clarity and new vision? Have you just received a grant and feel overwhelmed with the operational or logistical next steps?

I will provide the space for you to explore your process so that you are freed up to be yourself and live your best creative life.

Copyrights & Trademarks

A copyright is a legal benefit given to an author and a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States for “original works of authorship”, including literary, dramatic, musical, architectural, cartographic, choreographic, pantomimic, pictorial, graphic, sculptural, and audiovisual creations.

Contracts & Partnership Agreements

A contract is an agreement with specific terms between two or more persons or entities in which there is a promise to do something in return for a valuable benefit known as ‘consideration’. Since the law of contracts is at the heart of most business dealings, it is one of the three or four most significant areas of legal concern and can involve variations on circumstances and complexities.

Leases

A contractual agreement by which one party conveys an estate in property to another party, for a limited period, subject to various conditions, in exchange for something of value, but still retains ownership.

Art Law

Art law refers to the body of law involving multiple disciplines related to the sale and purchase of art. Art law transactions can trigger issues related to intellectual property (copyrights, trademarks), contracts, constitutional law and commercial law.

Entertainment Law

The entertainment industry includes the fields of theater, film, fine art, dance, opera, music, literary publishing, television, and radio. These fields share a common mission of selling or otherwise profiting from creative works or services provided by writers, songwriters, musicians, and other artists.

Wills, Health Care Directives, & Estate Planning

I work diligently to help you prepare for what can be one of the more difficult places in life’s journey: acute illness or even death. I will guide you through the process of making proactive decisions in the peace of the present moment. Have you thought about whom you would want to make decisions for you should you become incapacitated? Do you want your assets to be tied up in probate for months and months due to the absence of a will? I will help you to come to the decisions that are best for you and your loved ones.

Nonprofit Law & Governance

A nonprofit organization is a group organized for purposes of fulfilling a philosophical mission rather than generating profit. Nonprofit corporations are often termed “non-stock corporations.” Nonprofit organizations are designated as nonprofit through a lengthy and complicated application process with the Internal Revenue Service of the United States Government. Once an organization has nonprofit status, donors to the organization derive certain tax benefits, and in most cases, the organization may be free from paying certain taxes.

Website Review

I will review your website, either before it is launched or after, for any potential exposure to liability related to intellectual property, protection for minor users, libel, and consumer protection. I also have experience drafting website “user agreements.”

Entity Formation & Governance

Are you wondering if you should organize your business as an LLC or as a sole proprietor? Are you knowledgeable about the differences between a for-profit and a non-profit organization? If you are a non-profit, are you compliant in all aspects of governance? I can help you sort out these technical legal and organizational issues so that you feel protected by your entity formation rather than confused by it.
